The Corona virus information headquarters reported today (Tuesday) that in the PCR and genetic screening tests performed on passengers returning to Israel at Ben Gurion Airport, two verified corona BA5 strains were discovered.
Another case of the BA4 strain was also discovered.
The reason the BA4 and BA5 strains are causing concern is because they are spreading in areas where there has not recently been an omicron wave.
When the BA2 variant is still considered dominant, the explanation is that these varieties are not a sub-strain of BA2 but variants created in parallel.
The Ministry of Health said that they continue to monitor and update as needed.
