The body of a baby has been found in Eberswalde in north-eastern Brandenburg.
The background is unclear.
The dead child was discovered on Tuesday evening in the hallway of a residential building by a property management employee, said Ricarda Böhme, spokeswoman for the Frankfurt (Oder) public prosecutor's office.
The Märkische Oderzeitung first reported on the case.

Police and prosecutor investigations are ongoing.
So far, the gender and age of the child are unclear, it is said.
An autopsy must also clarify whether it is a newborn and whether it was born alive.
In addition, it is not yet known when the body was placed in the stairwell.
