After the long Memorial Day bridge, the jury of Johnny Depp's trial against Amber Heard returned yesterday to the closed session.
The expectation among the fans of both actors is very high and yet, even if technically a verdict could arrive today, it is highly unlikely that the jurors will find unanimity: the seven men and women whose identities will remain secret for a year must in fact, they review six weeks of testimonials, audio and video recordings, text messages and other images before issuing their opinion.
On Friday, the lawyers' arguments concluded, the jury met for a couple of hours before updating for the weekend.
Their task is to rule on a double lawsuit: that of
Johnny Depp
against ex-wife
Amber Heard
for ruining his career with an article in the "Washington Post" in which she was put on the streets as a victim of domestic violence;
and Heard's counter-complaint, after an attorney for her ex-husband, Adam Waldman, called her allegations "an invention" of her.
Depp asked for $ 50 million in damages.
Heard replied with a request for 100 million.
The jurors could agree with one or the other, both or neither. Whatever the final verdict in court, the one of the two actors who prevails in the court of public opinion will win: so far Depp seems to have been in advantage for the duration of the process.
