Trains are a common sight on public holidays - but this year the demand is particularly high.
The Pentecost weekend is the first weekend on which the nine-euro ticket is valid.
If you own one, you can use local public transport throughout Germany.
The current weekend is considered a test for this discount campaign as part of a relief package from the federal government: Deutsche Bahn expects large crowds, especially on tourist routes.
Even on the platforms, the travel wave led to sometimes dense crowds.
For example, there was a large rush to the regional trains towards the Baltic Sea to Stralsund and Rostock at Berlin Central Station on Saturday morning.
There were delays.
Federal police officers were increasingly on the platforms.
»If you can, you should do without the bike«
In many places, the regional trains are full - especially on the way to tourist destinations.
Travelers reported that the trains were sometimes completely overcrowded and that there were also delays.
Some train customers would not have found a seat, and in some places travelers with bicycles would not have been able to board regional trains, as dpa reporters reported.
According to Deutsche Bahn, passengers should find out more information from the local transport associations or via the DB Navigator shortly before starting their journey.
In view of the high occupancy rate, it cannot be guaranteed that travelers will be able to take their bicycles with them.
»Anyone who can should therefore do without the bike.«
Trains to Sylt packed: party mood
Numerous tourists and day visitors also made their way to Sylt.
The trains are packed, and the car trains are fully booked, a dpa photographer reported on Saturday afternoon.
Many train passengers arrived in a party mood.
A police spokesman emphasized that the situation on Sylt was calm.
There were no major operations during the night either.
A group of 50 to 80 punks who had been on the island for a few days had "been a little loud," but that wasn't anything special either.
