A plane carrying the Queen's youngest son Prince Edward, 58, and his wife Sophie, 57, has made an unscheduled return to London's departure airport.
There was a technical error on the plane that was supposed to bring the couple to Gibraltar, Buckingham Palace said.
The airline responsible, British Airways, said the plane had reversed as a precaution.
The problem has since been resolved and the plane is ready to take off again.
The visit to Gibraltar by the Earl and Countess of Wessex, as Edward and Sophie are officially called, is not only met with approval.
The Spanish government has criticized the trip, the Telegraph reported, citing diplomatic circles, since Madrid is also claiming Gibraltar on Spain's south coast.
The visit, during which Prince Edward and Sophie also planned to take part in a parade, is one of several trips to mark Queen Elizabeth II's jubilee this year.
