It is probably one of the favorite topics of Germans in social networks - sunflower oil.

People even post and tweet when they're on vacation.

Crete - "Jeanne d'Arc" has found it.

The sunflower oil in a Lidl on Crete.

“Not a trace of lack.

Sunflower oil in abundance,” the user tweeted.

Two liters cost between 6.49 euros and 5.45 euros.

The community gets on the Twitter post.

"It's the same with me in Turkey, everything is there," they say.

In Denmark, the shelves were also full last week, writes another holidaymaker.

Not from vacation, but obviously from home, the next commented: " We are completely spoiled.

And many believe the fairy tales that are told to us here.”

Across Europe, the shelves of discount stores seem to be full of sunflower oil.

Just not at home.

In Germany, customers are always faced with empty shelves or have to deal with regulations and high prices.

What can be the reason?

Sunflower Oil and Food - "Don't hoard, don't hoard"

One explanation could be that sales of flour and cooking oil in Germany have increased enormously in recent weeks, as people in Germany like to stock up or some even tend to hoard.

In the week from March 7th to 13th alone, the demand for flour tripled compared to September last year and that for cooking oil more than doubled, writes

.

Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (Greens) warns consumers against buying hamsters, which, among other factors, can also influence price developments.

His appeal: "Don't hoard, don't hoard - if you do that, you help prices keep rising."

Sunflower oil in the Greek Lidl

One reason for full sunflower oil shelves in southern Europe could also be that people in countries like Greece, Spain and Portugal not only prefer to use olive oil in the kitchen.

But some are also among the largest manufacturing countries.

With an annual volume of 1.3 million tons, Spain is likely to be the largest producer of olive oil.

About half of all liquid gold comes from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), writes

.

Italy, Tunisia and Greece produce about a million tons in total.
