In Berlin-Charlottenburg, a car crashed into a crowd on the sidewalk near Kurfürstendamm at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

200 meters further the car crashed into a shop window.

A woman died, six people are still in mortal danger, three others are seriously injured.

It is still unclear whether it was an accident or whether the alleged 29-year-old driver had political motives.

Iris Spranger, Senator for the Interior of Berlin:

»There is no such thing as a proper letter of confession.

We're going to examine the car accordingly now, it's running right now.

There are supposed to be posters inside.«

The driver, who is of Armenian descent and lives in Berlin, is supposed to use these posters to express himself about Turkey.

A school class from Hesse is also affected by the accident.

The mayor of Berlin assured them quick help.

Franziska Giffey, Mayor of Berlin: »The students who are here and are not injured, but are of course in shock, are being cared for by our Berlin school psychologists.

And it is certain that they will be looked after on the return journey, also by the school in Hesse.«

The scene of the accident is not far from the Berlin Memorial Church.

In December 2016, an Islamist assassin drove into a Christmas market there.

13 people died and more than 70 were injured.

The police are now asking people not to post pictures of the scene and instead to help with clues.
