Do you have a garden and dream of the perfect lawn?
Then you should avoid three things.
Read here what they are.
The temperatures are becoming more pleasant again, but when you look into your garden you don't get any spring feelings yet?
Lawn care is particularly important right now in order to enjoy lush greenery all summer long.
Whether on a few square meters or with a lot of space: With our tips you can avoid the most common mistakes in the garden!
These are signs of improper lawn care:
The turf has bare patches.
The surfaces are discolored yellow-brown.
The weeds are rampant.
These
uncomplicated expert tips will
help you avoid the biggest mistakes when caring for your lawn:
Mistake 1: Mow too little
Don't let your lawn grow too long.
Or to put it the other way around: avoid cutting off too much.
Why is that so important?
If you mow more than a third of the blade length, you weaken your lawn:
Shoots grow more slowly because they need a longer regeneration phase.
Weeds like clover or speedwell grow faster because they get more light.
Weakened lawns burn faster when dry.
Tip:
Mow
once or twice a week
for a lush green and healthy lawn.
Above all, this method encourages the grasses to branch out - and look particularly juicy.
The lawn grows particularly vigorously in the warm and humid months of May and June.
Therefore, adjust your mowing rhythm to the weather during this period.
Note that lawns grown from cheap seeds, such as the Berliner Tiergarten variety, can grow up to 4cm a week.
High-quality mixtures ensure slower growth.
What to do after vacation?
If your lawn has grown too long, mow it in stages to the desired length.
Give your lawn 2-3 days to regenerate.
Mistake 2: Not fertilizing properly
Regular lawn mowing is good for the lawn, but deprives it of important nutrients.
If you want dense growth and a strong green color,
regular supply with the right fertilizer
is important.
The ideal time to fertilize your lawn
Lawns need nutrients all year round.
Make sure you only fertilize on dry days that are not too hot.
Otherwise the grass could burn in the sun.
Alternatively, heavy rain and wet soil will wash out the fertilizer too quickly.
Apply the first fertilizer of the year in the spring after the first mowing.
Depending on the type of fertilizer, fertilize a second time in early June.
This supports the
strongest growth phase
.
Give the last fertilizer in early November.
This makes your lawn resistant to frost.

Which fertilizer is suitable for my lawn?
In specialist shops you will find a wide selection of
mineral fertilizers
, most of which work quickly.
Alternatively, choose organic fertilizers, which often have a higher long-term effect.
These fertilizers are therefore particularly recommended.
Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the amount of fertilizer.
This will give your lawn the optimum concentration of nutrients.
In addition, special fertilizers are useful, which provide the lawn with
particularly needed nutrients
.
We recommend an autumn lawn fertilizer for the last fertilization of the year.
This has a higher concentration of potassium than conventional fertilizers.
Grasses need this nutrient before winter.

Mistake 3: Scarifying incorrectly
Moss, weeds and thatch can be reliably removed with proper scarifying.
This improves the absorption of nutrients and ensures a lush green and resilient lawn.
Caution: Potential sources of error lurk here too:
Choosing the wrong time
Scarify in the period from April to May, when no more severe ground frost is to be expected.
This allows your lawn to regenerate in the following warm summer months
Ground too dry or too wet
Avoid scarifying after a heavy rain or on bone dry ground.
The lawn thatch can only be removed best if the soil is normally moist.
Scarify too deep
Even if it is tempting to remove as much weed and lawn thatch as possible: Set the scarifier to a maximum of 3 millimeters.
Otherwise you will damage your lawn too much.
They cut up vital roots and tear out entire plants.
Proper lawn care is important
If you want to have a beautiful lawn, you cannot avoid certain care measures.
Therefore, if you take our expert tips into account, you will avoid the common mistakes: Mow weekly and use fertilizers regularly and precisely.
Use a properly adjusted scarifier.
So you can enjoy your dream lawn for a long time.
