"Excellent news": this is how the number one tennis player in the Russian world, Daniil Medvedev, defined the news that players of Russian and Belarusian nationality will be able to participate in this year's US Open.
Medvedev will therefore be able to defend his title: he and his compatriots, along with tennis players from Belarus, have instead been excluded from Wimbledon, due to the invasion of Ukraine.
At the US Open, on the other hand, the players of the two nations will be able to participate, competing under neutral flags.
"I am happy to be able to defend my title. I have fantastic memories of last year - said Medvedev - it was one of the most special tournaments for me".
