(ANSA) - ROME, JUL 18 - A mapping of the Italian glaciers, to identify the danger and risks of each, with the aim of arriving at guidelines and homogeneous criteria for constant monitoring.
This is what emerged during a meeting that was held this morning between the Civil Protection and the presidents of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces of the Alps.
The meeting is the direct consequence of what emerged in the meeting of the Commission of great risks on 12 July: on that occasion the experts had indicated the need to obtain models of the triggering mechanisms of the phenomena of instability of the glaciers;
models that "could also allow the identification of precursors and direct the monitoring of physical quantities relevant in the process and the need to investigate the ways of propagation towards the valley of the flows resulting from the collapses, necessary to perimeter the areas subject to danger".
In today's meeting it was therefore decided to continue the work involving all the competent subjects in order to identify homogeneous criteria for the monitoring of glaciers.
