In this summer of 2022, Florent Massot hopes to escape a sad epilogue.
His small independent publishing house, created six years ago, is now on the verge of bankruptcy.
“A series of factors, first and foremost the pandemic, has weakened Massot Éditions.
Its funding was based solely on the sale of books,”
he says.
After several editorial adventures in recent decades, the combative publisher (who had revealed the author Virginie Despentes in the 1990s) had chosen in 2016 to launch his latest publishing house without the financial support of a private partner.
A risky bet in a particularly cash-intensive business... But several successes published by the house, such as the books with the Dalai Lama, the comic book series signed by Emma, or the notebooks of Jim Morrison, had finally been enough to bring the structure to life. .
Before the pandemic, it claimed a turnover of 600,000 euros.
The house has also published committed works…
