Collections saved in August 15th and balance trends stable on 2021. The breath of fresh air, after the -10% average recorded at the end of July, comes from tourism, more incisive than in previous years.

But it is precisely from this that the concerns for the month of September also derive when, with the physiological decline in tourist flows, the picture appears more uncertain.

To take stock of the sales on sale is the president of the Italy-Confcommercio Fashion Federation, Giulio Felloni, who asks the government for interventions in support of the sector: from the containment of energy-intensive costs in the bill to support on rents, as done during the period of Covid with the tax credit.

The partial data for August seem to rebalance a trend that at the end of July, one month after the start of the summer sales, appeared negative with 54% of operators registering a decline, 33% declaring stability and only 13% declaring noted a positive sales compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to Federmoda data, polo shirts and t-shirts (45.5%) are leading the ranking of purchasing preferences in summer, while women's clothing is on the second step of the podium, with equal merit (35.1%). , pants and shirts.

This is followed by beachwear (15.6%), men's suits (14.3%), accessories (14.3%), bags (11.7%), jackets (10.4%), underwear and hosiery (10.4 %), children's clothing (9.1%), jeans (6.5%), children's footwear (5.2%), suitcases (3.9%), overalls (2.6%).

But in addition to the decline in tourism, another unknown factor is inflation: "Unlike others, the clothing sector has yet to pay a rise in prices", says Felloni, explaining that "in the sector's stores there is no was an increase in prices and with the sales the consumer can buy at very low cost, while it will be very difficult to do so in the future. The biggest concern is waking up one day with costs that are not accepted by the consumer, because they are too high ", warns the president of Federmoda.

For this, Felloni points out, interventions by the government to support the sector are necessary, from containing energy-consuming costs to support on rents, such as the tax credit during the period of Covid, but not only.
