British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury reported on his cousin's violent death in a very personal Instagram post and called for tougher laws against knife violence.

Alongside a picture with the slogan "Stop Knife Crime," he wrote, "My cousin was murdered last night, stabbed in the neck."

He described the rampant knife violence in Great Britain as a “pandemic” and demanded: “This has to stop as soon as possible.

The government must introduce tougher penalties for knife violence."

British police confirmed that Fury's cousin Rico Burton was stabbed to death in Altrincham, northwest England, on Sunday night.

A 17-year-old was also seriously injured in the incident.

Two suspects, aged 20 and 21, were arrested.

Investigators currently believe Burton was out with friends and was the victim of a "senseless" and "unplanned" attack, Grand Manchester Police spokesman Ben Ewart said at a news conference.

An 87-year-old man was killed with a knife in an electric wheelchair in London last Tuesday.

The act had caused great horror.

The incidents had recently increased in the British capital.

Within a few days, six people had lost their lives there by violence.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan blamed the heatwave, school holidays and longer daylight hours, he told radio station LBC.

Overall, however, violent and property crimes in the capital have declined since last year, according to the Labor politician.

Police-recorded knife crime in England and Wales rose 10 per cent to more than 49,000 offenses between March 2021 and March this year.
