"A humanitarian crisis of epic proportions": the Pakistani government defines the situation in the country in this way by announcing the state of emergency after the monsoon rains and floods that have caused 937 deaths to date.

There are 343 children among the victims.

Balochistan, cut off from the rest of the country after the collapse of the main railway bridge, and Sindh are the two most affected regions.

The new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the latter, local media reports, to assist in the rescue operations.
