He was hours away from losing 4.5 million euros.
The winner of the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday July 12, whose ticket had been bought in the Hautes-Alpes, showed up in extremis to collect his prize, reports BFMTV.
He had until 11:59 p.m. this Friday to come forward and after a long wait, he finally made himself known today less than twenty-four hours from the fateful moment, the FDJ said in a statement.
If he hadn't called in time, his winnings would have been rolled over in a super lottery.
The FDJ specifies, however, that lottery winners are rare not to come forward: in 2021, only two jackpots of one million euros each had not been claimed.
With a total sum of 4,572,731.40 euros, this is the fourth biggest gain recorded in the Hautes-Alpes.
