In Indonesia, there is no municipal waste collection.
So waste accumulates in rivers, along roads and in the sea. It was after participating in a beach clean-up that young Jakarta resident Dian Kurniawati decided to leave his job to start a recycling business.
“I don't see used plastic packaging as waste.
For me, it's valuable material in the wrong place,” she explains.
The company Tridi Oasis Group buys plastic bottles from garbage collectors who collect them in town.
They are transported to the warehouse where they are sorted before being reduced to small plastic flakes to be resold.
The plastic is thus recycled into plastic packaging.
