One ailment is particularly widespread.
Addiction, eating disorders, depression and anxiety disorders: according to the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (dgppn), mental illnesses are among the most frequently diagnosed diseases.
The most common clinical pictures include anxiety disorders, depression and disorders caused by the use of alcohol or medication, according to the association.
According to figures from the dgppn, around 27.8 percent of the adult population in Germany is affected by a mental illness every year, which corresponds to around 17.8 million people.

Mental illnesses often develop insidiously.
Many of those affected do not know for a long time that an anxiety disorder or depression is behind their symptoms such as listlessness, depression or anxiety.
