The director never said he was retiring: In a statement, quoted by Indiewire and Vanity Fair magazines, Woody Allen's press secretary has corrected previously published statements about the filmmaker's retirement.

"He said he would consider not making films anymore because as a cinema lover he doesn't enjoy making films that end up on streaming platforms directly or very quickly." At the moment, however, Allen has no intention of to retire and is very happy to be able to shoot his 50th film in Paris.

He will also not devote himself to writing novels in the future.

Completely different statements

At the weekend, completely different statements by the 86-year-old were made public: According to an interview with the Spanish newspaper "La Vanguardia", Allen wanted to withdraw from the filmmaker;

According to the interview, the director said his 50th film will probably be his last.

After that, he will focus on writing books.

SPIEGEL also reported on the announced withdrawal.

Allen has been one of the world's most important directors since the comedy "What's Up, Tiger Lily?"

However, allegations by his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow from his relationship with actress Mia Farrow of having abused her as a child have had a severe impact on Allen's career in recent years.

As a result, a number of stars distanced themselves from working with him, financing his films in the USA became almost impossible, and his ancestral publisher Hachette canceled the publication of his memoirs »Apropos of Nothing« after employees protested against it.

In the USA, the Arcade publishing house then took over the book, and in Germany it was published by Rowohlt in 2020 under the title »Ganz Nebenbei«.

Allen has always denied the allegations.
