Karin Viard will chair the 26th Alpe d'Huez festival

The actress succeeds Alexandra Lamy, José Garcia and Michèle Laroque at the head of the jury which will crown the comedy of the year at the end of January.


The actress Karin Viard will chair the 26th edition of the Alpe d'Huez international comedy film festival, which will be held from January 16 to 22, 2023 in the Isère ski resort, the organizers announced on Wednesday September 21.

Actress with a busy filmography, as comfortable in comedy as in drama, Karin Viard, 56, received an interpretation award at the same festival for her role in

Les Ambitieux

by Catherine Corsini in 2007, then was a member of the jury in 2016, chaired that year by Kad Merad.

Presiding over the jury in January represents

"an honor (...) and a happiness"

, rejoiced the actress, whom the general public had discovered in 1997 in

Les Randonneurs

, a comedy where she played a hilarious unlucky vacationer.

A genre that she considers

"as noble as drama, but much more difficult to do

," she explained to RTL on Wednesday.

"The festival selects quality, daring and original films and (...) all this happens in good company, and in the mountains

," she said in a statement.

The last editions of the Alpe d'Huez festival had been chaired respectively by Alexandra Lamy (2019), José Garcia (2020) and Michèle Laroque (2022).

In January 2022, Jérôme Commandeur was awarded the king trophy of the festival for his film Irréductible which follows a civil servant transferred

“to the worst corners of France”

by an inspector.
