Green activists attack Vermeer's famous painting 'The Girl with a Pearl Earring', preserved in the Mauritshuis in The Hague.
After the attack, Dutch police arrested three people, police and museum reported.
Two ecologists stuck to the painting and another threw an unknown substance, but the artwork is protected by glass and apparently hasn't been damaged, the Mauritshuis said in a statement to AFP.
Images circulated on social media show activists next to the painting wearing 'Just Stop Oil' T-shirts.
