A convicted criminal fled after another hearing from the district court in Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt - but was later caught.
According to a court spokesman, the man tore the protective grille of a window of a secured cell out of the wall.
The man escaped from the building.
According to the spokesman, the convict, who will be held in Burg Prison until at least 2024, was on trial for an incident before his incarceration.
According to the police, the man was later caught on a country road in the Stendal district.
He was on foot and offered no resistance.
The police had searched for the man with a large contingent.
Even a helicopter was on duty.
The court sentenced the man to a one-year prison sentence that was not yet final.
It was about an assault in a supermarket, said the spokesman.
The man is said to be a petty criminal with multiple convictions.
