A family of squirrels had nested in the engine compartment of a car.

Stuttgart - If you take pets with you in your car, you should exercise extreme caution, especially in summer.

Tesla's "Dog Mode" is designed to protect trapped animals from excessive heat.

From time to time, however, it also happens that animals nest in a car without being asked.

In the case of a marten, such an incident can be very expensive, but other little animals also find their way into the warm engine compartment from time to time.

In the US, for example, police officers rescued two baby kittens from a Tesla electric car.

In a video published

The Dodo on Facebook, a rather unusual encounter with an animal can be seen in the engine compartment of a car.

A squirrel has apparently built a nest for its young in the engine compartment of the Mazda model, paralyzing the vehicle.

The couple, who apparently own the Mazda, documented the encounter and the rescue operation of the little squirrel family.

In the video, the car's owner says she was in the vehicle reading the manual to find out what the warning signals mean when she spotted a squirrel running out from under the car.

A little later, the animal came out of a bush laden with leaves and small sticks and wanted to approach the car again.

"I thought to myself: That doesn't exist!", the woman explains her reaction.

"The squirrel is breaking my car," is heard from the woman's husband.

As it turned out, the squirrel had built a nest for its young in the Mazda's engine bay and had been running back and forth between a nearby bush and the car to fill the nest with leaves and other materials.

The animal had apparently caused devastating damage in the engine compartment, which is why several functions of the car no longer worked.

The Mazda owners then decided to get to the bottom of what the squirrel was doing in the engine compartment of their car.

As the man stuck his hand into the engine bay, he quickly withdrew it.

"I felt something alive," he said, as his wife reports in the video.

As an animal lover, she thought less of the car than of the poor baby animals in the engine compartment.

"I don't care if I get bitten," she said.

"I will free the babies from this."

Especially with a combustion model, the engine compartment can quickly get very hot while driving, which would have had bad consequences for the little squirrel family.

"I wasn't even mad, I just wanted to save the babies," explains the woman in the video.

The small animals were curled up and cramped under the leaves in the engine compartment.

After the couple freed the little squirrel family from the engine bay, she googled how to reunite baby squirrels with their mother.

Finally, she put the little animals in a box under a tree near the bush and put her cell phone next to it, which played "squirrel noises", as the woman explains.

After a short time, the mother also arrived, first sneaking around the box several times and finally taking her young in her mouth to transport them.

"It was really crazy," the video says.

Even though the squirrel mother caused quite a bit of damage in the engine compartment of the Mazda while building her nest, the campaign ended well for her and her young.
