There has been a new traffic sign in Germany for more than two years.
But hardly any driver should know the meaning.
Violation can be expensive.
Hamm - There are over 400 different traffic signs in Germany.
And there are always new ones being added.
The traffic sign 1010-70 has existed since the most recent amendment to the road traffic regulations - and hardly anyone knows it.
Drivers should be careful: Violating the regulation can be expensive.

Many drivers will have seen the traffic sign before, but very few people know the meaning behind it: The shared car with the four people stands for car sharing, as wa.de reports.

Since the change in the road traffic regulations in spring 2020 - the amendment came into force later due to disputes in some federal states - municipalities have been able to use the traffic sign 1010-70 to designate parking spaces only for car-sharing vehicles.
It is an official carsharing sign.
Traffic sign 277.1 is also new - there is a penalty of 70 euros and one point.
Car sharing parking sign: Hardly any driver knows the traffic sign
In other words: If there is an additional sign with a shared car at a parking space marked with a “P”, it is a parking space for car-sharing vehicles.
Important here: The traffic sign only applies to vehicles from official providers, not to private carsharing cars.

The car sharing sign is also available with the addition "free".
It means that vehicles from car-sharing providers are allowed to park in restricted no-parking zones.
Resident parking zones can also be approved for car sharing vehicles with the additional sign.

Drivers should remember the traffic sign better - because violating it can be expensive.
If a vehicle is illegally parked on a car-sharing parking space, a warning fee of around 55 euros is due.
And: Cities and municipalities can order towing.
That gets really expensive then.
