How to walk well with snowshoes?

The good news is that snowshoes are easy to use.

No need to take lessons like skiing to enjoy it.

To walk well with your snowshoes, you have to start by putting them on properly.

You must slide your foot into the racket until you reach the stopper, then strap your foot well so that it is properly maintained.

If you change shoes or use snowshoes that are not yours, remember to redo the adjustments.

Once the snowshoes are on, you can start walking.

There you have the choice between two different methods:

    - Spread the legs: here, the idea is that your two snowshoes brush against each other but do not touch each other during each step taken.

You don't have a stride height to deal with.

    This technique can be a little tiring at first, the time to get up to speed;

    - Raise your feet: in this case, you will have to raise your foot a little higher so that the snowshoes pass one above the other.

Be careful, the more powdery the snow, the more you will have to lift your feet so that it does not accumulate on the snowshoes.

Whichever method you choose, note that the gesture will quickly become fluid and natural.

To help you, you can use sticks.

They are not essential but can be quite practical depending on the elevation.

They also offer more stability, especially if you are carrying a backpack.

    Choose telescopic models.

So you can use them only when you need them and keep them attached to your backpack the rest of the time.

If you are tackling climbs, bet on snowshoes equipped with wedges.

Just take them out when you're on the slope.

They help to keep the foot straight and save energy.

To avoid tiring yourself out, there are a few mistakes to avoid.

Among them, dragging your feet in the snow.

Also be careful not to bump or rub the racquets against each other.

This could damage them and you could trip or fall in the snow.

Finally, for the descent, take your time.

To avoid getting carried away by the slope, make zigzag curves, like when skiing.

This will prevent you from picking up too much speed and you will stay in control.

    How to dress for snowshoeing?

    Snowshoeing is practiced on snow.

    Therefore, it may get cold.

As for skiing or snowboarding, it is therefore advisable to be well equipped by wearing clothes adapted to the weather conditions.

As far as shoes are concerned, choose them that are waterproof and rise above the ankle.

To keep the snow out as much as possible, you can add gaiters.

    Also wear technical underwear.

These will keep you warm but will still be breathable.

In addition, they are designed in materials that dry quickly, ideal when you practice an activity that is likely to make you sweat.

You can add a fleece or a down jacket at the top to keep the heat in.

Complete with a waterproof, warm and windproof jacket.

For the bottom, you have the choice between the essential ski pants, or leggings, also in technical material.

The latter will have the advantage of being very flexible and following your movements well.

Of course, think of the various accessories such as a hat so as not to suffer heat loss from the skull.

Also protect your hands with warm gloves.

For your eyes, sunglasses will be essential, the sun reverberating enormously on the snow.
