The ocean, sand, cliffs punctuated with squares and… 19,000 m3 of waste.
Faced with a sublime setting, a vast project to dismantle and clean up a coastal dump in Fouras-les-Bains, in Charente-Maritime, has just started.
Asbestos, rubble, household appliances, plastics, glass or metals were abandoned here between the 1960s and 1990s. The coastline was then more than 50 m from this former private land.
But the erosion of the coastline has since eaten away at the land and threatened, with each storm, to carry away this dump located close to the national nature reserve of the marsh of Yves.
