(ANSA) - MELBOURNE, JAN 18 - Italian tennis player JannikSinner, number 16 in the world, easily advanced to the third round of the Australian Open by beating Argentine Tomas Etcheverry (79th in the standings) 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, in Melbourne.
In the next round, the 21-year-old from South Tyrol will face the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (78th) or the South African Lloyd Harris (186th).
In the women's tournament, world number one Iga Swiatek advances to the third round after beating Colombia's Camilla Osorioper 6-2, 6-3.
"It was much more difficult than the score suggests," said the 21-year-old from Poland.
Semifinalist in Melbourne last year, Swiatek will face Canadian Bianca Andreescu, winner of the 2019 US Open, or Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa on Friday.
