The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, is at the Teatro Grande in Brescia where the opening ceremony of Bergamo-Brescia, the Italian capital of culture, is being held.
The event is held simultaneously in the two cities, in Brescia at the Teatro Grande and in Bergamo at the Donizetti.

The President of the Republic had visited the province of Brescia during the toughest months of the Covid pandemic.
On November 1, 2020, he had laid a wreath at the Castegnato cemetery, to commemorate the victims of the pandemic who have been numerous in this area.
In 2021 Mattarella was instead in sight in Brescia, on May 18, the day on which he also visited the city's vaccination center.
