Such finds should not come across the officials of the Federal Railways at Cologne Central Station every day.
Two purses contained more than $10,000 in cash.
As the federal police announced on Tuesday, Deutsche Bahn employees handed them the two bags on Monday afternoon.
These had previously been found on the S12 tram.
In addition to travel documents and debit cards, the bags also contained a large sum of cash: 10,100 euros and 3,200 Turkish lira.
With the help of the documents, the owner of the money could be quickly identified.
According to the police, the 56-year-old woman from Elsdorf was "more than relieved" when she received the call that her bags had been found and immediately came to the police station.
There she reported that she had withdrawn the money for her family and acquaintances who are in the earthquake area in Turkey.
However, she was unable to take her planned flight to Turkey in the morning because she had lost her bag, including her ID documents.
