Positive debut of Jannik Sinner in the Atp 500 tournament in Rotterdam, which he skipped last year because he was positive for Covid.
The blue, who climbed back to No. 14 in the world ranking after the success in Montpellier, beat the Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi in three sets: 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in 2h02' of play.
Sinner had won, again in three sets, both previous ones with Bonzi (n.48), played in the third round of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and in the second round of Roland Garros 2020. On Thursday 16 February, the 21-year-old from Sesto Pusteria will face the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, n.3 in the ranking and first seeding favourite, finalist of the Dutch tournament twelve months ago.
The two will meet again after the eighth final of the last Australian Open, when Tsitsipas won in the fifth after Sinner had recovered two sets from a disadvantage.
