A youth from Bangladesh accidentally traveled to Malaysia on the high seas in a shipping container – and has now returned home.
The 16-year-old was unable to free himself from a container on a ship in the port of Chittagong while playing hide-and-seek with friends in January, an employee of the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka told the dpa news agency on Wednesday.
The ship then went to Malaysia.
More than a month ago, after several days at sea, he was found in his container, very weak.
In Malaysia he was taken to a clinic and cared for.
On Tuesday night he was finally able to hug his parents and siblings again at the airport in Dhaka.
He was accompanied on the return journey by embassy employees from his country.
"We are so happy to have him back with us," his father told local media, thanking the governments of Bangladesh and Malaysia.
