The Minister of Education, Yoav Kish, announced today (Monday) the winning of the Israel Prize winner, the artist Michal Rovner, in the field of plastic arts for the year 2018.

Michal Rovner is one of the founders of the "Camera Obscura" art school in Tel Aviv.

In its reasoning, the award committee stated that: "Michal Rovner is one of the leading Israeli artists. Her artistic work is distinguished by an original and groundbreaking language in the field of photography, video and architectural installation. Rovner has received significant recognition and success in Israel and around the world by the important museums and art lovers."

The committee also stated in its reasoning for the selection that "Michal's work is universal, in the deepest sense of the word, touching every person, everywhere, but at the same time, the taut strings, tied at their ends to the pegs that are embedded here, are evident in it."

The award committee convened under the leadership of Dr. Dalia Manor and with the participation of Dr. Aya Luria, Yuval Biton and Serge Tirosh.

The Israel Awards ceremony will be held at the end of the country's 75th Independence Day.
