Renzi loses the case 'The court is not an ATM'

    The civil court of Florence has rejected a claim for damages of 200,000 euros made by the senator of Italia Viva Matteo Renzi against the Corriere della Sera but in the sentence, in addition to explaining the reasons for the decision, the judge Susanna Zanda writes that the sum claimed " beyond the groundlessness of the question, it has a clear and unjustified deterrent effect, especially when placed in the context of initiatives aimed at using the civil court as a sort of ATM from which to draw sums for one's livelihood, even when one involves it without no foundation".

The newspaper Il Tirreno reports it this morning.

    Matteo Renzi will have to pay 16,000 euros in court costs to RCS, the director Luciano Fontana and the journalist Fiorenza Sarzanini, author of an article dated 4 December 2019 dedicated to the Open case, the former foundation at the center of an investigation into illegal party financing which promoted Renzi's political initiatives at the top of the Democratic Party.

According to Renzi, the article was full of false claims.

Instead, Judge Zanda underlined the correctness of the contents reported with respect to the investigation and documentary sources.

The judge writes, in some passages, that "the article respects the canon of truth as it exactly expresses the content of an information note from the Bank of Italy's Financial Intelligence Unit" and that the "wording 'gift given to Renzi '
