Outgoing Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has announced that she will step down in September as leader of the Social Democratic Party of Finland after her electoral defeat in the April 2 elections.
The 37-year-old leader "has come to the conclusion" that she will not run "for another term as SDP leader at the next congress in September".
Sanna Marin has announced that tomorrow she will resign from the government and has also ruled out entering a new government if future Prime Minister Petteri Orpo chooses to ally with the left rather than with the extreme right.
"I don't think it is likely that I myself will be
part of the ministerial team", she said, further specifying that "I have not been offered an international post. I will continue to work
as an MP".
Referring to the "great honor" of having led the government for the past three and a half years, the woman, who has become an internationally recognized figure during her tenure, also confided in "exceptionally difficult times".
"I have to admit frankly that my endurance has been tested over the years," she explained.
