The outgoing Finnish premier has announced that she will resign in September as leader of the social democratic party. 'Thursday I resign as prime minister, I will continue to be a deputy'. The True Finns party passes to the European Parliament from the Identity and Democracy group to the European Conservatives and Reformists (ANSA)

With the same simple but direct style that has transformed her into a world icon,

Sanna Marin greets, thanks and moves on

.

"It was a great honor but I have to admit frankly that my resistance has been put to the test in recent years", is the farewell of the youngest and most famous Finnish premier in the first press conference after the electoral defeat suffered on Sunday, when his social democratic party finished only third with 19.9% of the votes, behind Petteri Orpo's centre-right and Riika Purra's sovereignists.

Marin has closed the doors to future political positions that go beyond the role of simple deputy: tomorrow she will leave the leadership of the government and above all she will not accept roles in the next liberal-oriented executive but in any case, given the electoral results, probably in a broad coalition.

For the premier 'rock star', as she was also nicknamed at home due to her passion for rock which cost her a drug test after attending a party where she was seen dancing wildly, there was already talk in Finland of a role as Minister of Foreign Affairs precisely because of his commitment to Helsinki's entry into NATO and his popularity abroad.

"I don't think it's probable that I'm part of the ministerial team", Marin cut short, however.

For her pro-European and Atlanticist line, the outgoing premier was also indicated by rumors from Brussels as a possible successor to Stoltenberg at the helm of the Alliance or, in 2024, as a candidate for the presidency of the European Commission.

Her very tough position towards Russia for the invasion of Ukraine a year ago had turned the spotlight on the young but determined premier.

Her video of her stating that “the only way out of the conflict is for Russia to leave Ukraine” had gone viral due to her terse effectiveness.

But even here you denied that any proposals had been made to you: "I have not been offered an international post. I will continue to work as a deputy", you clarified, without however denying your ambitions.

In the meantime, Finland is also turning the page

: now it's up to the liberal Orpo - who with the National Coalition Party obtained 20.8 percent - to be the next prime minister but will first have to find a majority that supports him among the sovereigns of the True Finns who took 20.1 percent and the Social Democrats.

'True Finns move from Id group to Ecr al Pe'

The True Finns party, which achieved a historic result in last weekend's elections by coming second and overtaking the Socialists of outgoing premier Sanna Marin, has announced its intention to leave the group European Union of Identity and Democracy, led by Northern League Marco Zanni, to move to the group of European Conservatives and Reformists of Ecr, the parliamentary delegation of the European party chaired by Giorgia Meloni.

This was reported by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.

"In the EU Parliament we want to belong to a group whose parties are united by the uncompromising defense of Western civilization and the architecture of European security policy", explained the party in a note reported by the newspaper.

For True Finns, the one in Ecr is a comeback.

Their delegation has already been part of this group during the term of the European Parliament 2014-2019.

Currently, their delegation to the Eurochamber consists of only two MEPs, but if the results obtained in the national elections were to be confirmed at the next European elections, their delegation could grow significantly, going to swell the ranks of the conservatives.
