Diego Sánchez Cabezudo, who is a renowned athlete, had a strong conflict with the police while training.

Diego Sánchez Cabezudo,

a well-known Argentine triathlete, had a violent encounter with the Police

while he was training on Route 11, when the agents wanted to retain his bicycle, arguing that "he could not ride there."

That led to a scandalous arrest that was recorded by the cell phones of people who passed through the place.

According to the newspaper La Capital de Mar del Plata, the triathlete was denounced by tourists who were going to the Atlantic Coast in the middle of the long Easter weekend.

When going through a police checkpoint, located near the Las Macetas intersection, on the way to Chapadmalal, the officers told him that he could not circulate there and tried to retain the bicycle.

This generated a back and forth of reproaches, which later escalated into

shoving and struggling between the troops and the athlete.

"What do you have the right to?

Stop fucking people who don't fuck.

Do you think I don't have the balls to fight with you?

”, Sánchez Cabezudo yelled at the traffic agents.

The fight ended with

Sánchez Cabezudo on the ground

, with a cut on his head and held back by three police officers.

“We are going to take you prisoner,” one of the officers told him.

From there they took him to the police station, understanding that he had resisted the operation.

He was charged with 'resisting authority'.

According to the National Traffic Law (No. 24449) in article 46 subparagraph b, it is established that the presence of bicycles is prohibited on highways or semi-highways and specifies that the presence of "pedestrians, vehicles propelled by the driver, traction vehicles to blood, mopeds and special machinery” is prohibited.

However, it does not refer to routes or roads adjacent to urban centers.

The athlete's response

After the scandal, Sánchez Cabezudo told how the controversial operation that ended with his arrest was like, in an interview with Radio Brisas.

"We went out pedaling like every day

, with a group of friends. At the checkpoint located in the La Moriniga field, where we always pass, they stop us. At one point we thought they were stopping cars, because 40 years ago what happened for there. Once we brake, they tell us that we cannot circulate and that we have to leave the bicycles there, since it was a contravention," he said.

"There we began to argue, and other cyclists even passed by. We told them that it was not true that we could not circulate. It is not allowed on the highway or highways, but on Route 11 yes. It was a common talk, but it got worse and worse , they got tangled up and

they didn't like that we marked the field for them

," argued the athlete.

And he added: "Everything was irregular. At one point I told them I was leaving, one of them grabbed my bike and that's where another type of discussion started, which is what you end up seeing in the video. They abused a law that didn't touch them in Route 11. I overheat, someone pushes me and all hell breaks out.

They went beyond their authority

. "

According to what he said, if the police had told them that they had to leave because of the number of cars that were circulating, they would have left.

"They are the same agents who have known me all my life. It didn't make sense. The turtle escaped them," she remarked.
