From May 1st, passengers throughout Germany can use the 49-euro ticket.

Here is an overview of where the Deutschlandticket is most worthwhile.

Bremen – The long-awaited 49-euro ticket is here.

Advance sales started at the beginning of April, and the ticket should be in use throughout Germany from May.

Since the start of sales, Deutsche Bahn (DB) has already sold more than 500,000 tickets.

"And there are more every day," said Evelyn Palla from DB.

As the name suggests, the ticket is available for EUR 49 per month or EUR 588 per year.

The Deutschlandticket is intended to create incentives to use more public transport.

In terms of price, this should be profitable, especially for commuters and frequent drivers.

Here you can find out where the 49-euro ticket is most worthwhile.

49-euro ticket: The Germany ticket is worthwhile in these cities

Whether the ticket is worth it initially depends on the route and the region.

If you only plan to travel in your own city, you should compare the 49-euro ticket with the prices of the usual monthly tickets.

According to the consumer portal

test reports

, however, most of them should benefit.

Accordingly, the Deutschlandticket is particularly worthwhile for passengers in Hamburg, Cologne, Bonn and Frankfurt am Main.

On average, travelers save about 24 percent (16.44 euros).

If you only drive in the Bremen city area, you pay around 67 euros for the monthly ticket.

In Berlin, the monthly ticket is available for 86 euros, in Frankfurt from 77 euros.

In Potsdam (36.17 euros), Magdeburg (38.50 euros) and Schwerin (43.08 euros), on the other hand, the local monthly pass is cheaper.

Even those who do not commute every day and have previously preferred to buy single tickets could benefit from the Deutschlandticket.

According to

test reports

, a monthly ticket should have paid off after an average of 23 trips (twelve days with a return trip).

With the successor to the 9-euro ticket, the purchase is said to be worthwhile for an average of nine days.

It is also valid nationwide.

49-euro ticket: where and for whom the Germany ticket is most worthwhile

The 49-euro ticket will primarily benefit people who commute to cities from surrounding regions.

For the route between Lüneburg and Hamburg, you pay 187 euros in a monthly subscription, reports

Wirtschaftswoche

.

From May, this connection offers great savings.

The longer the way to the city and the more tariff zones or transport associations you cross, the more worthwhile the Deutschlandticket is, informed

.

The 49-euro ticket is particularly worthwhile on these routes, as the monthly and annual subscriptions are significantly more expensive:

  • Cologne – Düsseldorf for 250 euros (monthly ticket)

  • Bremen – Hamburg for 229 euros (monthly ticket)

  • Hanover – Göttingen for 227 euros (monthly ticket)

  • Halle – Leipzig for 221 euros (monthly ticket)

  • Wiesbaden/Mainz – Frankfurt am Main for 1902 euros (annual subscription)

  • Potsdam – Berlin for 1038 euros (annual subscription)

  • Augsburg – Munich for 2595 euros (annual subscription)

  • Ingolstadt – Munich for 2734 euros (annual subscription)

What travelers and commuters should pay attention to

If you want to use the 49-euro ticket for an excursion, you can only use the subscription for one month if you cancel in good time.

However, country tickets or the Quer-throughs-Land ticket are a lot cheaper.

The latter costs 51 euros for two people and any number of journeys in regional transport in one day.

The following applies here: The more travelers, the cheaper the ticket is per person.

Long-distance travelers should also check ICE or IC alternatives.

Here you pay extra, but you often get to your destination faster.

Routes with the regional train sometimes take significantly more time.

The 49 euro ticket is also valid in some neighboring countries.

Since the bus and train network is not well developed in all regions of Germany, many people, especially in rural areas, are likely to continue to use their cars.

In order for the 49-euro ticket to be worthwhile here too, gaps in the public offer must be closed, according to the ADAC.
