A 48-year-old woman survived for five days stuck in the Australian bush, a vast landscape characterized by wild and spontaneous vegetation, eating lollipops and drinking a bottle of wine.
Lillian had set off on Sunday for what was supposed to be a short trip, through thick bush in Victoria, but ended up in a dead end after taking a wrong turn and her car got stuck in the mud.
The woman, a teetotaler, had only a bottle of wine in the car, a few snacks, lollipops and no water: "The only liquid Lillian had with her was a bottle of wine, which she did not drink, which she had bought as a gift for her mother," said Wodonga police station sergeant Martin Torpey.
After five nights she was discovered by emergency services flying over the area. "The first thing I thought of asking was water and a cigarette," Lillian told 9News Australia, and "Thank God the policewoman had a cigarette."
The woman was found about 60km from the nearest town but, due to health problems, was unable to walk for long, so she stayed in her car, Victoria police said. She was then taken to hospital for treatment for dehydration but has already returned home to Melbourne.
