Born in Germany in 1923, landed in Palestine in 1939, settled in the United States, this legend of the history of music was in itself a concentrate of the twentieth century. A founding member of the Beaux Arts Trio, he died at the age of 99.
By dying seven months shy of his hundredth birthday, pianist Menahem Pressler left an immense void. With him, it is not only a legend of the history of music that leaves us, but a singular artistic destiny coupled with a true concentrate of the history of the twentieth century, its tragedies and miracles. When we had the privilege of interviewing him in October 2012, we knew, of course, that he was born in Germany, but also that he had left it seventy-three years earlier and had lived in the United States for sixty years.
