The EU representation in Israel has cancelled the diplomatic ceremony scheduled for tomorrow's Europe Day which was supposed to be attended by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. "Unfortunately - he wrote on twitter - this year we have decided to cancel the diplomatic reception as we do not want to offer a platform to someone whose views contradict the values represented by the EU". The Representation however chose to maintain "the 'Europe Day' cultural event for the Israeli public in order to celebrate a strong and constructive bilateral relationship with our partners and friends in Israel."
The presence - delegated by the government of Benyamin Netanyahu - of the radical right-wing leader, and Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir at the party had provoked a series of controversies in Israel. Both Yair Lapid, leader of the opposition, and other members of the same current had expressed strong reservations about Ben Gvir's participation.
