The groundbreaking architect Nissan Canaan has passed away at the age of 93 - voila! Real Estate

Danit Shenhav, he founded the firm "Canaan-Shenhav Architects", which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.

"A groundbreaking architect and a pleasant family man": The late architect Nissan Canaan (1930-2023) passed away last month at the age of 93, leaving behind 3 children, 9 grandchildren and <> great-grandchild.

Nissan Canaan graduated from the Technion in architectural studies, has signed dozens of exceptional and groundbreaking architectural projects. Canaan designed extensively in Tel Aviv and throughout the country. He was one of the pioneers of architects in the design of towers in Israel. In Tel Aviv, he designed the Century Tower, where the first curtain wall in Israel was designed, as well as Beit Eliyahu, Lighthouse House, Beit Hanna residential tower and more.

In addition, Canaan planned many residential neighborhoods, such as the Azorei Chen neighborhood and Ne'eman Towers in Tel Aviv, the Savyonim neighborhood, Reut Towers in Modi'in, the Nobel Laureates Campus in Rishon LeZion, and more.

Nissan Canaan has won many architectural awards, including: the Rokach Prize for planning Yarkon Park and Wohl Amphitheater, planning the Kfar Saba Cultural Hall, Beit Barbur in Tel Aviv, the Teachers Union House and many others. He designed the Tel Aviv Convention Center, the Hall of Remembrance in Jerusalem, many buildings at the Weizmann Institute, Tel Aviv University and Bar Ilan University.

Nissan and Adina Canaan were pioneers in the planning of modern assisted living in Israel. They planned "Up to One Hundred and Twenty" in Rishon LeZion, "Beit Tovei Ha'ir" in Jerusalem, "Ahuzat Poleg", and "Protea in the Village" in the Sharon, "Ahuzat Tzahala" in Tel Aviv and more.

For Nissan, architecture was his favorite hobby, which he did modestly and lovingly, striving for excellence, originality and innovation.

Between the years 1954-1992 Canaan was a partner in the firm "Elhanani-Canaan". In 1992, together with his wife, the late Arch. Adina Canaan, his daughter, Arch. Danit Shenhav, and son-in-law, Arch. Gil Shenhav, he founded the firm "Canaan-Shenhav Architects", which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. Today, Canaan Shenhav Architects is one of Israel's leading firms, managed by Irit Becker and Danish and Gil Shenhav, Moshik Ben Dor and Zamir Tirosh.

The buildings and neighborhoods designed by Nissan Canaan, scattered throughout the country, have become part of the urban landscape in which we all live, works that will stand here for many years to come and affect us all.
