American actor Robert De Niro, 79, has revealed that he recently became a father for the seventh time. In an interview with ET Canada broadcast Monday, the two-time Oscar winner corrected his interlocutor who was referring to his six children.
It's "seven actually," the actor replied. "I just had a baby," he said. He gave no indication of the child's gender or the identity of his mother. His agent confirmed the news to the France News Agency (AFP).
De Niro had two children with his first wife Diahnne Abbott, who starred alongside him in "Taxi Driver," and two with actress and singer Grace Hightower, from whom he has been separated since 2018. He also had twins with model Toukie Smith, with whom he had a relationship in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The "arguments" with his 11-year-old daughter
Regarding his relationship to parenthood, the actor told the Canadian channel that he considers himself a "loving" dad. He adds that he does not like "having to make the law" with his children. But "all parents will tell you that sometimes it's necessary." He also spoke of the "disagreements" he has with his children, including his 11-year-old daughter who sometimes causes him "grief" and with whom he "argues".
The actor is currently promoting his latest comedy, "My Father and I," which is set to hit theaters in the U.S. on May 26. Regularly referred to as one of the greatest actors of his generation, Robert De Niro won two Oscars before his 40th birthday: Best Supporting Actor in 1974 in "The Godfather, Part 2" and Best Actor in 1981 for his portrayal of boxer Jake LaMotta in "Raging Bull".
