In a matter of weeks, Aerolineas Argentinas will be able to start operating flights to the United States, both to Miami and New York, from Aeroparque Metropolitano Jorge Newbery.
According to Clarín, the flag carrier awaits the approval of the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) to the order it made to start flying with A330 aircraft to the United States.
The authorization, which would not only be for Aerolineas Argentinas but for any airline that wants to start operating international flights with A330 from the Buenos Aires airport, would arrive between July and August of this year.
In turn, the authorization would also allow flights to European cities, but, as Clarín learned, today Aerolineas Argentinas only evaluates operating to the United States for commercial reasons.
"It puts us in a more attractive situation both for the American who comes and the one who leaves," company sources confided.
Currently, Aerolineas Argentinas operates international flights from Aeroparque to all neighboring countries, Peru and Colombia.

The operation of flights to the United States from Aeroparque is due to the new runway inaugurated in March 2021. Since then, the airport's infrastructure has the dimensions and conditions to support an aircraft such as the Airbus 330 aircraft.
Based on the new possibilities, Aerolineas Argentinas began the process of feasibility analysis, safety of operation and consultations with the concessionaire Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 to request authorization from ANAC.
Now, it remains for ANAC to issue the resolution, which is discounted will be favorable, and its publication in the Official Gazette to begin scheduling flights.
Currently, the A330 flies from Aeroparque to domestic destinations such as Ushuaia, Bariloche, El Calafate and Puerto Iguazú.
Aeroparque's new runway
One of the most visible changes since 2021 was the runway. which now has 2,700 meters of extension (before it had 2,100). It grew 340 meters to the north and 250 to the south. In addition, it added meters to the width: 60 meters (before it measured 40). 5 meters of concrete and 7.5 meters of asphalt concrete were added on each side.
"Taxiways" were also incorporated, quick exits that allow an aircraft to leave the runway in a few minutes and return to the apron. That is, the track is released and the operation is streamlined.

The other radical change is in the beaconing. Like the Ezeiza airport, the Jorge Newbery will have a "category 3", which will allow it to operate in adverse weather conditions.
Until now the airport had category 1, the same as most airports in the country; While sufficient, the change improves performance at the security level.
