The effects of the North African anticyclone continue and 2023 will end with exceptional anomalous heat in Italy as well. Andrea Garbinato, editorial manager of the www.iLMeteo.it website, confirms that the meteorological photograph for New Year's Eve will follow the picture of the last few weeks: a cyclone will position itself over the North Sea, while a large area of North African high pressure will be stationed over the Mediterranean.
With this weather configuration we will have anomalous heat over southern Europe, intense frost in northern Scandinavia, bad weather between Sweden and Denmark and strong winds between England, France, Belgium and Holland. As far as Italy is concerned, on the night of December 31 we expect a slightly more eventful north, elsewhere mild and mostly anticyclonic conditions will still dominate.
On the last day of the year, in the morning, the weather is expected to be dry almost everywhere, then from the afternoon, and especially in the evening, we expect snowfall in the Alps and rain between Liguria, Tuscany and the Tyrrhenian side. During the night light showers are possible in Genoa, Milan, Venice, Trieste, Florence, Rome and Naples; temperatures will range from 7°C in Milan and Venice to 12°C in Florence, Rome and Naples, even reaching 15°C in Sicily. Decidedly high thermal values for midnight at the end of December. It will also be hot in the mountains, especially on the Apennine ridge, while in the Alps snowfalls are expected between December 31 and January 1300 up to about <> meters above sea level.
Until 31 December, 3 days of grey are expected in the plains and sun in the mountains: in particular, the long-lasting presence of the North African anticyclone is expected, which will make the weather monotonous until Sunday (excluded) with wider clearings in the South and on the Adriatic side. With the first day of 2024, a few flakes are expected in the Alps, but in general, temperatures will be above average by up to 8-10 degrees.
