Rain on the way for New Year's Eve and snow in the Alps. Then lighten up for the first days of the new year. Temperatures, for the hottest year in history globally that even exceeds the boiling 2016, are still above average. The Befana could bring a bit of cold.
This is confirmed by Mattia Gussoni, meteorologist of the www.iLMeteo.it site. Despite the mild temperatures, something will change right on the photo finish of the year: an Atlantic disturbance is coming, linked to a deep and violent cyclone centered on the British Isles. For New Year's Eve the toast will be wet on part of the North and on the Tyrrhenian side.
Meanwhile, in the next few hours, we will still have the powerful subtropical anticyclone overhead with thermal anomalies of +5/+8 degrees, especially in the Centre-North and in the mountains: few traces of snow on the Apennines, snow arriving instead in the Alps.
On December 31, an Atlantic disturbance is expected to arrive, linked to a moving front between France and Germany: in the morning there will be some light rain over Liguria and Lombardy and some very weak drops of rain may also fall on the entire Tyrrhenian side, earlier than expected.
Later, a year later, in 2024 there will be an immediate improvement with the last rainfall in the morning over the Triveneto and the Lower Tyrrhenian Sea; from the early afternoon there will also be some clearing and it will not be cold, the weather will then be dry almost everywhere except in the South and in southern Sardinia.

Sunday 31. In the north: it worsens with rain from west to east, snow above 1300 meters. In the middle: often overcast sky with drizzle in Tuscany and towards Lazio, more sunshine on the Adriatic coast. South: Partly cloudy skies, increasing clouds in the evening.
Monday 1. In the north: last rains in the north-east then improvement. In the middle: rains until the morning on the Tyrrhenian sector then improves. South: rains in Campania and locally also over the rest of the Lower Tyrrhenian Sea.
Trend: early 2024 still mild and with some scattered rain, especially on the Tyrrhenian sector.
