The 45-year-old died after being shot in the head during the night while celebrating New Year's Eve at home with relatives in Afragola, in the Neapolitan area. Her name was Concetta Russo and she was born in Naples. Investigations are underway to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the episode by the carabinieri of Afragola and the Investigative Unit of Castello di Cisterna. The woman had arrived in serious condition at the Cardarelli hospital in Naples with a 118 rescue vehicle around one o'clock last night and her condition had immediately appeared very serious.
In a similar case, in the Forcella district of Naples, another woman, a 50-year-old, was wounded in the abdomen by a gunshot that reached her while she was watching the fireworks display from the balcony of her home.
36 people were injured - including three minors - the first toll of the bangs that exploded on New Year's Eve between Naples and the province. The data provided by the Naples Police Headquarters marks an increase in the phenomenon compared to last year when the injured due to the bangs between Naples and the province were sixteen, less than half.

The two reported that they were in Corso Meridionale with a fireworks stand when they were approached by two people riding a scooter who allegedly asked them for money. Subsequently, they were allegedly joined by two other people - riding another scooter - one of whom allegedly fired at them, one wounding them in the tibia and the other in the left knee. Both are not life-threatening. The State Police are investigating the two incidents.
Also in Naples, a car caught fire, in Via dell'Epomeo, in the Pianura district, perhaps because it had passed over a firecracker thrown from above during the celebrations and exploded at that very moment. Firefighters had to intervene to tame the flames that engulfed the front of the vehicle.
The passengers were unharmed: in addition to the driver, there were also the wife and brother-in-law of the man driving. In Bagnoli, on the other hand, the carabinieri intervened in the San Paolo hospital for two people injured due to the explosion of firecrackers. The victims are a 33-year-old injured by a firecracker explosion on the right eyebrow with right eyelid edema and suspected injury and a 47-year-old discharged for burns of the left thigh healable in ten days.
New Year's Eve, 703 firefighters intervene for fires
There were 703 firefighters interventions tonight for fires attributable to the New Year's Eve celebrations, a slight increase compared to last year, when there were 646. Many interventions involved fires in dumpsters, some cars parked in the street.
