The death toll from the 126.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the Ishikawa region, in the center-west of the central island of Honshu, on New Year's Eve, has been updated to 5 confirmed deaths, while 210 people are still missing. This was announced by the local authorities. Thousands of rescuers are working despite adverse weather conditions and forecasts of imminent snowfall and grappling with a thousand landslides. The previous death toll was 110.
