"On the day in which the President of the Republic launches a warning against the single thought in culture from the right comes a disturbing signal that must sound an alarm for those who care about pluralism and the sense of institutions. The Teatro di Roma Foundation is an asset of the city, supported financially almost entirely from the Campidoglio, and we cannot in any way accept that the most important choices, starting from the appointment of its Director, are taken by force, imposing names and strategies only on the councilors appointed by the Government and the Lazio Region".
Thus the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
"Thinking in terms of overbearing occupation is totally contrary to our spirit of institutional collaboration with which instead it would have been necessary to proceed - he adds - Rome is also the capital of Culture, an open city that speaks to the whole country and we will oppose in every way and with every instrument against this desire to prevail which only risks producing rubble".
The "historical prestige of Rome's theaters - concludes the mayor of the capital - cannot be considered the spoils of a political party".
