Luca De Fusco is the new general director of the Teatro di Roma

De Fusco was appointed by the Foundation Council in which the president Francesco Siciliano and the councilor of the Municipality of Rome Natalia di Iorio did not participate.

The meeting of the board of directors which appointed Luca De Fusco as general director of the Teatro di Roma is "invalid as stated in the Foundation's statute": the finger is pointed by the president of the Foundation, Francesco Siciliano, absent as is the councilor appointed by the Municipality, Natalia Di Iorio.

And he underlines: "A choice for the direction of the Teatro Roma that cuts off the city would be a break in the territorial pact that is the basis of this theatre".

Siciliano then clarified: "I have no intention of resigning, because I think that, as Gramsci said, revolutions must be made from within. It would be another matter if the shareholders decided to return to a commissionership, in which case the board of directors would decline" .

"This morning a very serious event occurred - explains the Councilor for Culture of Rome Capital, Miguel Gotor -. This meeting is, in fact, abusive because it does not respect the prerogatives of the Sicilian President who last night had ordered to adjourn the meeting of The Board of Directors has already been convened by him, as required by the statute. It is therefore clear that there is an ongoing attempt by the right to occupy a fundamental reality of the Roman and Italian cultural system which we denounce and which we will oppose with all our strength. Freedom and the autonomy of culture are non-negotiable values. I hope that reasonableness and common sense will prevail in the next few hours."

"On the day in which the President of the Republic launches a warning against the single thought in culture from the right comes a disturbing signal that must sound an alarm for those who care about pluralism and the meaning of institutions - thus the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri - The Teatro di Roma Foundation is an asset of the city, financially supported almost entirely by the Campidoglio, and we cannot in any way accept that the most important choices, starting from the appointment of its Director, are taken by force, imposing names and strategies by only the councilors appointed by the Government and the Lazio Region".

"Thinking in terms of overbearing occupation is totally contrary to our spirit of institutional collaboration with which it would have been necessary to proceed instead - he adds -. Rome is also the capital of Culture, an open city that speaks to the whole country and we will oppose it in every way and with every tool against this desire to prevail which only risks producing rubble".

The "historical prestige of Rome's theaters - concludes the mayor of the capital - cannot be considered the spoils of a political party".
