Luca De Fusco is the new general director of the Teatro di Roma.

De Fusco was appointed this morning by the Foundation Council in which the president Francesco Siciliano and the councilor of the Municipality of Rome Natalia di Iorio did not participate.

The meeting of the board of directors which appointed Luca De Fusco as general director of the Teatro di Roma is "invalid as stated in the Foundation's statute": the one pointing the finger is the president of the Foundation, Francesco Siciliano, absent like the councilor appointed by the Municipality, Natalia Di Iorio.

And he underlines: "A choice made by the management of the Teatro Roma to cut off the city would be a breach of the territorial pact which is the basis of this theatre".

Siciliano then clarified: "I have no intention of resigning, because I think that, as Gramsci said, revolutions must be made from within. It would be another thing if shareholders decided to return to a commissionership, in which case the board of directors would decline".

"This morning a very serious event occurred - explains the Councilor for Culture of Rome Capital, Miguel Gotor - This meeting is, in fact, abusive because it does not respect the prerogatives of the Sicilian President who last night had already ordered the Board of Directors' meeting to be adjourned by him convened, as required by the statute. It is therefore clear that an attempt is underway by the right to occupy a fundamental reality of the Roman and Italian cultural system which we denounce and which we will oppose with all our strength. Freedom and the autonomy of culture are values non-negotiable.

I hope that reasonableness and common sense will prevail in the next few hours."
