Most people are familiar with the small bags that are usually included with cut flowers.

But only a few know what they are all about.

It's not just Valentine's Day that many cut flowers are given away as gifts.

You can now get fresh flowers in every supermarket or discount store.

If you unpack them at home, you will often find a packet with fine granules in the bouquet.

This so-called fresh cut flower is intended to help flowers look attractive for longer.

But do you really need it or can you safely throw it away?

Sugar, acid and preservatives

There are home remedies and plant strengtheners to ensure that cut flowers stay fresh longer.

Having attractive flowers for as long as possible – this is the wish of most plant lovers.

Plant strengthener, which is said to extend the lifespan of flowers by up to 60 percent, is included in the price of most cut flowers.
